Frequently Asked Questions

What is macadamia?

macadamia is a native iOS wallet for Cashu, an open-source Chaumian ecash protocol built for Bitcoin. It enables private, instant, and secure digital transactions.

How do I get started?

Currently, macadamia is available in beta through TestFlight. Download TestFlight from the App Store, then use our invitation link to install macadamia.

Is it safe to use?

While we prioritize security, please note that macadamia is currently in beta. We recommend starting with small amounts while testing the app.

The wallet says a mint is "unknown". What does that mean?

To protect the user from potentially malicious mints, the wallet will ask you whether you trust the mint and prompt you to add it. In the future you will be able to simply swap ecash to your preffered mint that is already in the wallet.

I get an error saying "outputs have already been signed before" or "Already Spent". What should I do?

This error indicates an inconsistency in the wallets database. Restoring the wallet with its current backup seed phrase will let you use the ecash again. Please report such cases so we can quickly fix the issue.

The app crashed. What should I do?

macadamia is currently in beta and some early versions might be unstable. We are working hard to make sure the wallet is reliable and crash reports are very valuable. If you have diagnostics sharing enabled they will be submitted automatically but you can also send them manually or include the crash report in a GitHub issue.

To avoid any further issues with your current installation, please double check that you have your seed phrase backup saved, then delete the app, reinstall the latest version from the App Store and restore the balance using your seed phrase.
